Behind the score

Played first.
Ranked second.

Solavenora is an independent discovery guide based around one useful promise: every listed game has earned its place through play, not payment.

Editorial standard

What gets through the gate.

Our list is intentionally small. We would rather explain ten excellent games properly than copy a thousand descriptions from a feed.

Access test · 20 points

Can a player reach meaningful play quickly in a current browser? We check desktop and mobile support, sign-in friction, loading, controls and whether an install is truly optional.

Game design · 30 points

We judge clarity, feedback, meaningful decisions, balance and whether the core loop stays interesting after the novelty wears off.

Craft & identity · 20 points

Art, sound and interface count when they help the game communicate. A tiny text game can score as highly as a 3D racer if every choice feels intentional.

Value without spend · 20 points

The core experience must be playable for $0. Optional cosmetics do not automatically disqualify a game, but pay-to-win pressure, aggressive purchase prompts or gambling mechanics do.

NZ fit · 10 points

We consider latency sensitivity, server population, bandwidth, short-session value and whether the experience still works sensibly from Aotearoa New Zealand.
